Frequently asked questions
- How do you calculate an average (mean)?
- Add all numbers, then divide by how many numbers you have. Mean = sum / count.
- Is average the same as median?
- No. Mean is the arithmetic average; median is the middle value after sorting. Use the median calculator for that.
- How should I enter the list?
- Separate numbers with commas or spaces. Non-numeric tokens are ignored.
- Does order matter?
- Order does not change the mean. Empty lists are rejected.
- Can I include decimals and negatives?
- Yes. Decimals and negative values are valid. Only non-numeric tokens are skipped.
- When should I use median instead?
- If outliers skew the mean (one huge value), the median often describes the “typical” value better.
