Frequently asked questions
- What does BMR mean?
- Basal metabolic rate is an estimate of calories burned at complete rest. This page uses the Mifflin–St Jeor equation.
- What formula is used?
- Men: BMR = 10w + 6.25h − 5a + 5. Women: BMR = 10w + 6.25h − 5a − 161. Weight w in kg, height h in cm, age a in years.
- Is BMR the same as TDEE?
- No. BMR is resting burn only. TDEE multiplies BMR by an activity factor for daily energy expenditure.
- Which units should I enter?
- Weight in kilograms and height in centimeters. Convert lb → kg (÷ 2.2046) and inches → cm (× 2.54) first if needed.
- Is this medical advice?
- No. It is a screening estimate for education. Clinical nutrition decisions need a qualified professional.
